Rutgers' position on current issues involving the university:
- Plan to Strengthen Alumni Relations: On April 24, the Board of Governors adopted the constitution and by-laws creating the Rutgers University Alumni Association as the lead organization serving all Rutgers alumni. This new structure is a central component in a sweeping plan to enhance relations between the university and its more than 360,000 graduates.
- Rutgers’ Endowment: Leaders of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, concerned about the rising cost of higher education, recently asked 136 colleges and universities, including Rutgers, to provide information on endowment and financial aid practices. The committee is examining how endowment funds are being used to contribute to undergraduate education and to make undergraduate studies more affordable.
- Fiscal Year 2008-2009 Budget Proposal: On Tuesday, February 26, Governor Corzine announced his fiscal year 2008-2009 budget proposal, which calls for steep and widespread funding reductions. Higher education will share in the sacrifices called for in the budget proposal.
- Report of the State
Commission of Investigation: At the
Assembly Higher Education Committee hearing February 25, President Richard
L. McCormick discussed the university's position on several key areas raised
by the SCI's October 2007 report. His presentation focused on Rutgers '
commitment to fiscal efficiency, accountability, good governance and sound
business practices.
